Subject Overview

Art is journey of discovery, learning new things and consolidating existing skills. Pupils are encouraged to develop their artistic skills on an individual basis and to work as a team where appropriate.

Art encourages pupils look at the art of other cultures across the world. This helps develop skills that are necessary to engender an understanding of, and respect and support for cultural differences.

It also helps an individual’s ability to form and articulate opinions and to think critically.

Art can teach pupils about their surroundings. It allows us to imagine, create and reflect our ideas in a visual representation of our world.

From Years 7 to 9 the Department sets up to half an hour homework every fortnight. Each group has homework detailing when each piece is set and to be given in.
