CPD

As a school, we are committed to developing all of our staff and achieved the CPD Mark accreditation for our work in this area. We operate a weekly CPD calendar that incorporates 2 approaches to securing and improving our professional practice.

One evening after school is dedicated to providing training for all staff on a variety of teaching and learning themes. These are set by the school taking account of school areas for improvement, national educational changes, current educational themes and from analysis of learning walks and department reviews.

For example, last school year we focused on the themes of effective questioning in the classroom, differentiation, SMSC, collaboratively planning for new specifications and effective use of data to ensure progress for all and safeguarding updates. These sessions are led by all members of staff across the school community including senior leaders, lead practioners and subject leaders.

One morning a week we have a teach meet, coordinated by lead teachers and delivered by all staff, including NQTs and RQTs. This is an opportunity for staff to share effective teaching and learning practice and approaches.

St Matthew’s is committed to improving staff at all stages of their career development, by providing not only the CPD above, but support, coaching and opportunities that are more personalised, supporting each individuals needs and ambitions.

At St Matthew’s, we provide opportunities for staff to take on additional roles and responsibilities within their subject areas. We also offer opportunities for staff to shadow current TLR post holders, in order to provide exposure to duties and tasks required of the role, providing staff with experience to support ongoing career development. At St Matthew’s we welcome internal applications from members of staff, when vacancies arise.
