Supporting Your Child’s English Learning at Home
At our school, we are committed to supporting your child as they develop their English language skills. Alongside the learning that takes place in lessons, there are a wide range of interventions and resources available both in school and at home to help your child build confidence in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
Support in School
Your child will receive targeted support through a variety of English language interventions designed to meet their individual needs. These include:
- Reading support to help develop fluency, comprehension, and a love of reading.
- Lexonic sessions, which support phonics and early reading skills.
- Flash Academy sessions, focused on developing English vocabulary, grammar, and subject-specific language.
In addition, the school library is open daily and offers a wide selection of books for students of all reading levels. This includes books specifically chosen to support multilingual learners, allowing students to read for enjoyment while developing their English skills.
Learning at Home
We strongly encourage families to support English learning at home wherever possible. Reading regularly, talking about schoolwork, and encouraging your child to practise new words all make a big difference.
Your child has access to Flash Academy, an online learning platform with over 200 interactive lessons designed to support English language development. These lessons can be used at home at a pace that suits your child and are a great way to reinforce what they are learning in school.
Further information about Flash Academy, including how to log in and use the platform, can be found on the school website.
Working Together
We value the partnership between school and home and recognise the important role families play in supporting learning. If you have any questions about your child’s English support or would like advice on resources you can use at home, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Together, we can help your child grow in confidence and succeed in their English learning journey.
