Student Leadership at St Matthew’s
At St Matthew’s, we believe that every student has the potential to make a positive difference to our school community. Our Student Leadership Programme provides a wide range of opportunities for students to develop confidence, responsibility, teamwork and communication skills, while making meaningful contribution to school life. Leadership opportunities are open to students across all year groups and allow them to take on responsibility in areas that match their interests, strengths and ambitions.
KS4 Prefects
Our KS4 Prefects are positive role models within the school community. They support staff and younger students, represent the school at events and activities, and help to promote our school values. The role provides students with valuable experience of leadership, responsibility and working with others.
Guardian Angels
Our Year 11 Guardian Angels play an important role in supporting younger students as they settle into school and navigate school life. They act as positive role models and friendly points of contact, helping to create a caring, supportive and inclusive school community.
KS3 Form Reps
KS3 Form Reps give students a voice in their form and across the wider school. They gather ideas and feedback from their peers, communicate with staff and help to contribute to improvements in school life. This is an excellent opportunity for students to develop confidence, communication and representation skills.
Year 8 Student Hosts
Our Year 8 Hosts represent the school by welcoming visitors, supporting events and helping to create a warm and positive first impression of our school. All Year 8 students have the opportunity to be a Host throughout the year, giving them the chance to develop confidence, professionalism and communication skills while taking on a visible role within our school community.
Other Student Leadership opportunities include Sports Leaders, Pupil Librarians, SEMH Peer Mentors, Hive Mentors.
At St. Matthew’s, student leadership is about much more than holding a title, it is about having a voice, taking responsibility, supporting others and making a difference. Whether they are leading on the sports field, supporting a younger student, welcoming visitors, promoting reading or representing the views of their peers, our student leaders play a vital role in making our school and even better place for everyone.
